Good MorningMeme stocks took center stage in the Wednesday trading session with AMC leading the way soaring 95% prompting several halts in trading for volatility. Bed, Bath & Beyond was up over 62 % and Blackberry spiked up 32% on heavy trading.
The action on the broader market was a bit more muted as stocks rose slightly on with the S&P 500 hovering near an all-time high. All three indexes are close to record levels. The Dow and Nasdaq are 1.4% and 3.2% below their respective records but struggled for direction ahead of key economic data reports later this week.
Energy stocks again outperformed the broader market on Wednesday as crude prices continued their recent rebound.
Inflation fears, and the ways in which the Federal Reserve might respond, have weighed on sentiment recently. Look for more of the same on Thursday. The U.S. likely added 671,000 non-farm payrolls in May, up from 266,000 jobs added in the previous month, according to economists polled by Dow Jones. After a huge miss, last month on the jobs reports the market is signaling a wait and see position this month. Featured: Elon’s big $266,000 per second purchase (Ad)
