Good MorningEquity markets fell hard on Monday with the S&P 500 down more than 2.5% at the low of the day. The move was caused by the growing worry of an economic slowdown that was amplified by a new crisis in Asia. Chinese real estate firm Evergrande is on the verge of defaulting on $300 billion in debt and could cause a ripple effect throughout the global economy.
As bad as the news is from China it is the FOMC that U.S. traders are most concerned about. The pace of consumer-level inflation cooled off a bit over the past month but remains high and suggests the Fed could issue a hawkish statement on Wednesday. The risk for the market is that Wednesday’s statement could be more hawkish than expected and send the market moving even lower.
