Good MorningEquity markets dived on Thursday following hotter-than-expected employment data from ADP. The ADP report shows a strong 235,000 jobs were created in December, which is 50% more than expected. The news sent a jolt through the market because it reinforces the idea the FOMC will hold rates at higher levels than previously anticipated for longer than previously forecast. Today's data includes the NFP report, which could echo the ADP report's strength.
Next week is the start of peak earnings reporting. We'll get reports from the big banks and a host of other key companies, so by the end of the week; we should have a good idea of what the season will look like. While there has been strength in some areas already, the news is thin, and strength is spotty. A weaker-than-forecast season in a world where estimates decline would seal the deal regarding the S&P 500 and where it goes next.
