Good MorningEquity markets shrugged off the risk of a widening Middle Eastern conflict in favor of the interest rate and earnings outlook. With interest rates falling and expected to continue falling in 2025, S&P 500 earnings will continue to grow and build value for investors. In this scenario, the market can continue to rise indefinitely, and new highs will likely occur as the quarters progress. The technical target is now 6,000 and may be reached by year's end.
This week's risk is the CPI report on Thursday. Analysts forecast headline inflation to cool compared to last month and last year, keeping the FOMC on pace to cut rates again this year. The risk is two-fold: cooler-than-expected data could raise fears of a recession, while hotter-than-expected data will keep the FOMC from cutting as aggressively as indicated. The takeaway for investors is that S&P 500 volatility will remain high for the foreseeable future. Featured: The case for trading fewer setups, not more (Ad)
