Good MorningEquity markets reversed course on Tuesday, erasing Monday's gains and more. The move is driven primarily by profit-taking, with shares of tech giants like NVIDIA leading the decline. NVIDIA, scheduled to report earnings later this month, fell more than 5% at the session's low, confirming resistance at the all-time high and ending a rally that added 30% to the share price.
The S&P 500 may continue to fall this week. The market is expecting solid results from names like Netflix later in the week and may have priced in the strength, and there is risk in the retail sales report. Retail sales are expected to accelerate from the prior month, which is a good-news-is-bad-news scenario. Strong retail sales would indicate lingering economic strength that can keep inflation running hot and the FOMC from cutting rates as aggressively as initially indicated.
