Good MorningEquity markets rebounded last week but may be heading nowhere fast. The high volatility index indicates an elevated level of fear heading into a critical week. Not only is the FOMC meeting this week and it is expected to make the first interest rate cuts since 2020, but it is also triple witching.
Triple Witching is when equity, index, and index futures options expire on the same day and may result in significant buying or selling. In this case, the odds are high that traders will sell because the S&P 500 is up 20% for the year, and options prices are elevated.
Other news due out this week is the retail sales data. The retail sales are expected to have grown compared to last month and last year but are unlikely to spark another rally. The trends suggest sluggish growth at best and barely enough to offset inflation, if at all. Featured: 3 energy stocks positioned for the oil supply shock (Ad)
