Good MorningEquity markets advanced on Tuesday as hopeful traders positioned themselves ahead of the summer. The S&P 500 gained more than half of a percent at the session's high and is on track to retest new all-time highs soon. The questions are whether the tariffs in place will undermine economic activity and if trade deals will begin to emerge. Regarding trade deals, their emergence would send a bullish jolt through the market, potentially sending the S&P 500 to new all-time highs.
Labor data is in focus this week. The outlook is generally favorable and supported by the week's first release, the JOLTS report. The JOLTS report revealed a surprisingly significant increase in job openings, contrary to the forecasted decline. The news suggests that labor markets not only remain healthy, but demand for employees is rising. If this is reflected in other data, including the ADP and NFP reports, the market may be able to set a new high before summer, regardless of tariffs.
