Good MorningTwo weeks from now, the Fed meets, and markets are already winding up. The S&P 500 looks bullish, the VIX is near its lows, and investors are betting on a 25-basis-point rate cut. According to the CME’s FedWatch Tool, odds for a cut sit near 87%, but cracks are forming—recent economic data hasn’t shown a clear need for easier policy.
The big risk? A reality check. If labor and inflation data stay hot, expectations for cuts may keep falling, and that repricing could shake stocks ahead of the meeting. Still, the economy remains strong—GDP is firm, jobless claims are low, and consumer spending is healthy. That leaves the door open for a one-and-done cut, with markets ready to run higher if the Fed gives the green light.
With earnings season mostly behind us, the next two weeks are all about data—and it will set the tone for September’s FOMC decision. Featured: AI investors should get ready for a BIG surprise (Ad)
