Good MorningLast week offered no surprises to alter the market’s bullish tone. Tariffs remain in place but largely discounted, inflation data stayed contained, and the Fed signaled a steady, data-driven approach. The S&P 500 held its uptrend toward the 7,400 target, with any correction expected to be shallow and likely a buying opportunity before year-end.
Technology remained the key driver, though leadership shifted as NVIDIA (NASDAQ: NVDA) flattened while Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT), Alphabet (NASDAQ: GOOGL), Oracle (NASDAQ: ORCL), Broadcom (NASDAQ: AVGO), and ServiceNow (NYSE: NOW) carried gains. Oracle led with a 20% surge, underscoring its growing AI role.
Economic reports were broadly positive. Q2 GDP was revised to 3.8%, PMI data showed expansion, Durable Goods Orders rose 2.9%, and housing activity improved.
Jobless claims fell to 218,000, reinforcing labor market strength. PCE inflation rose just 0.1%, with core holding at 2.9%, supporting a moderate pace of Fed rate cuts. Markets now price in at least one more cut this year.
This week, attention turns to September labor data and early earnings. Reports from Paychex (NASDAQ: PAYX), Lamb Weston (NYSE: LW), and Nike (NYSE: NKE) will test sentiment, while fresh economic data could confirm the economy’s surprising resilience.
