Good MorningEquity markets tread water near record highs for another day as participants prepared for this week's potentially market-moving events. The first will be NVIDIA's Q2 earnings report. Expectations are high going into the report, making it more important than ever that the results are strong. In this environment, weaker-than-expected earnings or forecasts will undermine market sentiment and could lead to another correction for NVIDIA stock and the broad market.
The second potentially market-moving news will come out on Friday. The PCE price index is expected to show inflation accelerating compared to the prior month, which is not something the market wants to see. The risk is that inflation will be hotter than expected, taking a September interest rate cut off the table. The bigger risk is that inflation will stall at current levels, keeping the FOMC from cutting rates in 2024. As it is, the market expects at least three cuts by year's end, with a high probability of four. Featured: 5 Best Stocks Under $5 to Buy Now (Ad)
